Oct 20, CFF Founder Catherine Freeman and CFF General Manager Carol Ross attended a business class organised by ‘Spheres of Influence International’ entitled ‘Connecting Corporate Australia to the Classroom.’
Catherine and Carol were invited by Peter Spence (Creative Processes Exchange) and Bron Madigan (Jane Cowmeadow Communications and Media) to engage with top minds to explore the reality of ‘corporate educational responsibility.’
A panel of education experts included John Roskam (Executive Director of the free market think tank, The Institute of Public Affairs), Adam Smith (One of AFR Boss’ 2008 Young Executives of the Year and the Foundation for Young Australians CEO), Jenny Lewis (CEO Australian Council for Education Leaders and Co Chair of the International Microsoft Partners in Learning Advisory Board), Professor Brian Caldwell (Managing Director Educational Transformations and renowned education expert), Dr Steve Holden (Managing Editor ‘Teacher’ Magazine), and Rupert Macgregor (Executive Director Australian Council of State School Organisations).
Catherine asked the panel’s general pearls of wisdom in addition to thoughts around CFF accessing more innovative approaches for Palm Island in order to enhancing the local school children’s educational outcomes.
Adam Smith reminded me that there was plenty of goodwill in Australia in terms of indigenous education.
Dr Steve Holden directed me to the mechanism that is ‘The Tender Bridge.’
Jenny Lewis highlighted that the will and want of the kids is critical, and lastly suggested that I ask for forgiveness later!
Rupert Macgregor suggested exploring the Society for the Provision of Education in Rural Australia’s website and in particular it’s case studies.
Professor Brian Caldwell spoke about a fine example in First Nation practices especially of Canada.
Lastly, John Roskam strongly endorsed teaching Palm Island children music.
CFF would like to thank and acknowledge Peter Spence, Bron Madigan and Patrizia Torelli (Managing Director of Spheres Influence International.)
